Easter Madness

This year Nolan and I celebrated our first Easter away from family. My mum sent us some chocolate bunnies and easter goodies in a care package. We have been snacking on them ever since and I am surprised to report that not only did 1 chocolate bunny survive Easter - it is still sitting in our basket waiting to be eaten!

On Saturday our housing community sponsored an Easter Egg Hunt at the playground right in front of our house. We decided to watch in style since we don't have any kids of our own yet. So the night before we went to Target in Iowa and bought a couple of lawn chairs. Then the next morning Nolan made sure to go our early and set up our chairs right in the thick of things. To truly imagine the Easter Egg hunt you must understand something about our housing community:

1. There are probably 150 units
2. There are kids EVERYWHERE
3. There are tons and tons of kids
4. Seriously, I bet there are at least 200 kids under the age of 10 living here

So the playground was divided into 3 sections and it just so happened that we were sitting in front of the 0-2years old section.

Everyone lined up on the sidewalk above the playground and we had a big countdown from 10. At 0 all the parents started yelling at the kids "Go, Go!!" So what did the 0-2 kids do? They ran! They ran as fast as their legs could carry them - right on past the eggs. They all ran to the end of the playground and turned around with huge smiles on their faces. You could tell they were proud of themselves for running so fast all the way to the other side!

Imagine their confusion as they turned around in their victory and they saw their typically supportive parents yelling "No, No!!" "Get the eggs!" The kids looked around at each other all wondering - how could this have gone so wrong?

Well at this point the parents took to the field to help their little ones out. They would point out eggs and sometimes even help them put them in their small baskets. Eventually the little ones figured out what their parents wanted them to do. They were suppose to clean up the playground. Well most didn't want to help clean up - so they left their baskets and wandered off to other things.

It was only after all the eggs were collected that things got interesting. Parents started opening the eggs to "give their children" the treasures inside. (lets be honest - parents take their kids to these things so the parent can get the candy) Well once these little guys figured out that the eggs had treasure they immediately ran back out onto the field to try and find some more eggs. Of course all the eggs were already gone but it was a hoot to watch them run around like chickens searching for eggs!

Afterwards, Nolan and I ran some errands (including picking up our Bountiful Basket) and got ready for our Sunday Easter dinner.

Easter Sunday was great! We were able to sleep in and then get some of the food ready for dinner. While the ham cooked we went to church where all the messages focused on inviting Christ into our lives and more fully understand His sacrifice for us.

For the official Easter Dinner we invited some neighbors over and we feasted on ham, potatoes, salad, sweet rolls, and even some Costco Creme Brule for dessert. Morale of the story - if you ever want great food invite yourself over to our house! We love having people over but we (okay, this is really just me) hate organizing gatherings so just do us all a favor and send us a text 24 hours in advance to let us know you are coming :)
