WHAT?!? We have a blog???

A few days ago my dad mentioned to me that he checks out our blog almost every morning to see if we have updated it... Talk about guilt trip! Nolan and I have had so much going on lately its been hard to keep everyone up to date. Here are a few highlight:

-We spent Thanksgiving in Utah and had a blast!
-After Nolan survived finals (and ended up in the top 33% of his class!!!!) We settled into Curitiba, Brazil for one of the warmest Christmas seasons of my life!
-Now we are back in Omaha and trying to survive the below freezing temperatures :)
-Nolan celebrated his 26th birthday!!!

I have almost finished my application to George Washington for their Education Technology Leadership Masters (it is due March 1st and I should have a response by April 1st) and Nolan is busy every day at Creighton Law School.

We thought that now with finals behind us Law School would be much easier. Holy Mole were we wrong! It turns out that the 2nd semester is all about finding an internship for the summer. Here's why:

With the downturn in our economy a lot of people decided to go back to school and a lot entered law school. This meant that the market started to become saturated with lawyers - so jobs can be hard to come by when you graduate. The best way to find a job after graduation is 1: graduate in the top third of your class and 2: already have work experience under your belt.

Nolan only has 2 summers to get this work experience he needs to boost his resume. Creighton law school works with a lot of law firms in Nebraska to help students find summer internships. If you can get one of the internships that Creighton arranges there is a high chance that it will be a paid internship!!! This means for us that a Creighton internship would be our #1 choice, even though it would mean staying in Nebraska for the summer. If we cant find one here then we will use all of our contacts to try and find one in Utah. The upside of Utah is, of course, being closer to family. The downside is, since Utah already has 2 incredible law schools, it is close to impossible to find a paid internship there, or any internship there.

To kick off this semester 7 law firms hosted their own open houses for Creighton and University of Nebraska Law School students. I barely saw Nolan during those weeks. He would be at school from 7-4 and then run off to mingle with attorneys until 7 or 8. I am thankful those are over but they were a great experience for Nolan! He, not surprisingly, was amazing at getting to know all these different attorneys and on more than one occasion had 2 or 3 attorneys talking to him at a time while other students were in packs descending on the catered food :)

Now that the open houses and Creighton Internship applications are over, Nolan has launched into the interview season. This week alone he has had 4 interviews and he still has 3 more to go in the next 10 days. I was so proud of him! He was offered 6 interviews for the 8 firms he applied to!! After his first interview the firm will get in touch with him within a week to let him know if they would like to have him in for round 2 of interviews. I think... they will make their final selections after round 2 interviews.

For those of you good in math you will realize that leaves him with 1 unaccounted interview. Apparently, two days ago Nolan was sitting in the hallways with some friends during a break and Professor M. walked by. He isn't currently Nolan's professor but he helped recruit Nolan to Creighton and is the LDS Bishop of the singles ward. He asked Nolan if he'd like an internship at the Attorney General's Office this summer. Nolan, with a shocked face, said sure! Professor M asked Nolan to email him a copy of his resume and transcript so he could put in a good word for Nolan. So now Nolan is filling out the online application and getting ready for the interview. It doesn't mean he is guaranteed the spot - but having a strong recommendation can't hurt!

As you can tell we are definitely keeping busy with great things!
