Project Clean Up has turned to Project Be Healthy

About a month ago our deep freezer in the back broke. Usually this wouldn't be a huge issue because it doesn't hold much except for our meats. However, my mum had just visited and helped us fill it with all sorts of wonderful food from Costco and Walmart.

At first we thought we had simply overloaded it and that the freezer needed time to cool down again. Then after a week or so we realized it was probably something more serious - so we called Frigidaire Customer Service. They walked me through a few things and then determined that the seal on the freezer had gone bad and cold air was leaking out that way. Since it was still under warranty they arranged for a repairman to come fix it. I was told that all the food should be okay because it was still making cold air but that a few things might melt. When the repair company called they couldn't come until the next week.

In the meantime we noticed a few things like the ice cream melting - which we were told to expect. So we pigged out on ice cream and then tried to keep the door closed as much as possible.

Finally about 2 weeks since we first noticed the problem the repair man arrived. It took "Kevin" all of 5 minutes to find out that the seal was fine but that the compressor had broken. He said it was common on that model of freezers and that mean that no cold air was being made it was simply recirculating the cold air that was already in the freezer.

At this point I freaked. I immediately moved all of the meat and most expensize food items to our freezer in the kitchen - stuffing it so full that you couldn't get anything out of it. Nolan and I then spent the next 4 days eating the rest of the freezer food that at this point was more like refrigerator food! It was too late to try and refreeze everything without worrying about major freezer burn and we gave some food away but we were worried about giving away possibly spoiled food.

So our dinners started to look a little like this:

Sample Dinner: Penne Pasta, Creamy Gnocchi, Mozzarella sticks, Beef Bourguignon, & Raspberry Tart

Although tasty and fun Nolan and I are now both looking forward to more fresh food and fresh veggies in our lives!!
